Support Groups

You don’t have to do this alone

The current Afterglow Support Group meets Fridays, October 23 through December 4, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM, with a break on November 27 for Thanksgiving. It is a six-week series, and you can still ask to join.

If you’re a mama struggling with perinatal depression or anxiety and you’re looking for a sense of community during these isolating times, I hope you’ll join us for the next Afterglow Support Group! I couldn’t find anything like this when I was struggling and it’s profoundly important that we band together to help each other on this rollercoaster ride of motherhood.

What the group covers

We will cover topics related to coping tools, self-care, what to expect, questions to ask your provider when considering medication, communicating with your partner, and attachment with your baby, making meaning out of your motherhood experience, as well as provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space to process with each other. If you are experiencing pre-natal depression or anxiety, you are welcome to join!

How our time flows

The group runs as six weekly sessions, 90 minutes each.

To balance personal connection with gentle learning, each session unfolds in two intentional parts:

Part 1: Shared Reflection & Connection

We begin by opening the floor. You are invited to share whatever experiences, thoughts, or emotions you are carrying with you into the room today.

Part 2: Exploration & Discussion

We shift together into a psychoeducational theme or topic, followed by an open, collaborative discussion where we reflect on insights, shared patterns, and takeaways.

Ending

We end with a guided meditation for a nervous system rest and to close out our time together feeling calm and connected. Of course, babies are going to make their natural sounds, and that is not a disruption, but rather, part of the lived experience of parenthood.

Guidelines & consent

Welcome to our shared space. To help create an environment grounded in warmth, emotional safety, and mutual respect, we invite everyone to honor these shared agreements:

  1. Honoring Privacy & Trust. Everything shared in this room stays in this room. Please hold the names, personal stories, and vulnerable moments shared here in gentle confidence.
  2. Embracing Every Experience. We welcome feelings and experiences just as they are. There are no "right" or "wrong" feelings, and all parts of your story belong here.
  3. Caring for Yourself First. You are the expert on your own needs and well-being. If you need to step away, stretch, or take a gentle break at any point, please feel free to do so without hesitation.
  4. Showing Up in Your Own Way. Simply being here is a gift. There is never any pressure to speak—compassionate, attentive listening is just as meaningful a contribution as sharing aloud.
  5. Speaking from Lived Experience. When you share, we encourage using “I” statements rather than generalizations like “we” or “you.” Focus on speaking from your own lived feelings and personal journey.
  6. Holding Space, Not Fixing. It is natural to want to help, but we intentionally set aside advice-giving, problem-solving, and trying to "fix" things. We trust each person’s inner wisdom and ability to navigate their own path.
  7. Listening with Presence. When someone speaks, give them your full, uninterrupted attention. Listen to understand and connect with their humanity, rather than planning what to say next.
  8. Trusting What Is Offered. What each person chooses to share is always enough. Please refrain from probing or asking questions for more detail; we honor whatever is offered in the moment.
  9. Welcoming the Quiet. Silence is a natural, nourishing part of our time together. It offers us room to breathe, digest, and reflect. There is no need to rush in or feel responsible for filling the quiet.

If you can’t join us

If you can’t join us for some reason, I encourage you to read all of the Afterglow Handouts, a resource I am happy to share with any mama for free. Postpartum Support International has great information in the meantime, if you haven’t already checked it out. Always remember, you are not alone. There is hope. With treatment, you will be well.

The Afterglow Handouts are listed on the resources page.

How to sign up

To sign up, please email me so that I can send you the outline and weekly articles, and so that you can stay in touch with the other moms in your group and to review the group guidelines and consent form. This will help us save time the day of and get started. Looking forward to meeting you and your little one!
